Stationary Exercise Bikes

Bicycle riding is one of the most popular forms of exercise, which places stationary exercise bikes in high demand for consumers who want the value of biking within their own home. Biking burns a ton of calories as a cardiovascular exercise, but it also builds up the lower body muscles which leads to an increase in metabolism and reduction of body fat. These health benefits ensure that as the health and fitness movement gains in popularity, stationary bikes will remain in high demand.

Fitness bikes for home use have evolved a lot over the years, and so have the demands and expectations that most consumers carry when they look to purchase home workout equipment. The number of features that come in high demand grow by the year and the number of bikes on the market has flourished in response.

For example, recumbent stationary exercise bikes are now extremely popular. This is a design where your feet are stretched out in front of you, instead of straight down under your body. This design was first developed for physical therapy and other medical purposes, but it soon caught on to the general public and professional gyms as well.

Recumbent bikes eliminate the tension placed on the lower body with upright stationary bikes, making them ideal for anyone with knee, back, or hip problems. They are also preferable for people who have issues balancing on top of a regular upright bike, since the seats on a recumbent bike have high backs for extra support and stabilization.

Yet, the upright bike remains extremely competitive with top brands such as the Schwinn stationary bike line and Proform stationary bikes coming out with newer models every year. They are flying off the shelf because these brands offer a host of convenient features at prices generally running well under a thousand dollars.

The old idea that any stationary fitness bike sold under a thousand dollars would immediately fall apart in a worthless heap of annoying groans has long been shot down. Now, quality bikes that last for years can be purchased for a mere $300-600.

Stationary exercise bikes are one of the oldest and most relied upon forms of physical activity, and they will continue to be in high demand in the future. With models now coming out with television screens and Ipod docks, there is no telling what advanced features bikes of the future will deliver.
